What Am I?

What am I?

I am a human. The product of millions of years of evolution. I’m the descendant of a of a long line of anscestors. I am the latest organism of my genetic line created by the harsh environment. I am superior to my predecessors and yet inferior to my successors. I am the part of the generation on which the world’s hope rests. I am the force that strives towards the future.

What am I?

I am a student. An empty mind waiting to be filled with knowledge. I am someone easily influenced, hardly knowledgeable. I am soft clay, shaped by my environment. I am curious. I am eager. I am extraordinary.

What am I?

I am a biological machine, part of a greater society. I am a worker. I am what drives this world forward. I strive for success. I crave for achievement.

What am I?

I am a collection of atoms, forged in a distant star, carried by a comet. I am part of the ever growing universe. I am the soul which exists between both space and time. I am bound to nothing, and attached to everything. I am the truth of this universe.

What am I?

I am strong. I am pure. I am true. I am life itself. I am an unstoppable force and a caring gesture. I am full of energy yet so mellow. I see nothingness but I shape everything.

What am I?

I am a person who gazes at the stars and wonders: “What am I?”

We’re a bunch of escapists

So how are you guys? That question was rhetorical, don’t answer it. The fact is I couldn’t care less how you guys are. Infact very rarely is there an author or a writer who actually cares about how their readers are. Harsh reality? I know.

We as a race are addicted to our culture. And a major part of it is comprised of Books (you know, the things with pages), Anime (Japanese cartoons) and Movies (people doing stuff in front of a camera).

But why are we so addicted to them? What makes us like them so much? What’s so special about them?

The simple fact is most of us are escapists. We watch Anime and Movies because we want to delve into someone else’s exciting story to escape our boring one. We want to live a life full of action, fun and love and all the other things we don’t have in our lives.  We want emotions and the experiences of other fictional people to distract us from our own lives. Our imagination is the greatest method to escape reality.

Granted some may argue: “Rayan, you piece of shit, Anime and Books and Movies provide us with good entertainment, that’s all.”

And you would be absolutely wrong. What do you think in the first place which actually entertains us in these media? The very fact they are different from our lives. You’ll have a hard time finding a good Movie without some plot twist or some unrealistic thing happening which won’t happen to us in real life. All in all we all (most of us) are escapists. Slice Of Life anime provides us a new perspective on life, and doesn’t show a similarity to it. No matter how you look at it, we are a culture of escapists.

Is it bad? I don’t think so.

This all came to me when I finished a really good anime series and I was going into general depression because there wasn’t another season.

Answers To Common Existensial Questions, By A Teenager

Why do I exist? What is the point of life? What makes us human?

Yeah. The above questions have been nagging humanity for quite a while haven’t they? These bastardly question are the main reason for existensial crisis among teenagers. They gnaw at our minds, disabling our reasoning and our enthusiasm, they slowly take us down to the dark reaches where there lies no hope but only a void. A void in which many lose their minds and their thoughts.

Why do I exist?

Well in my opinion this one of the most overrated questions. The answer is simple. You exist to live your life and await whatever the fuck that comes after death. It’s your choice of how you live your life and your whole existence depends on it. Just as long as you live your life to the fullest. It’s all about our choices. So to summarise, you exist so you can live your life to the fullest by making the right choices.

What is the point of life?

Actually, I have no fucking clue.

But I do have a good guess. I guess the point of life in biological terms is to reproduce. To pass on your genes. To make babies. To fuck. To make sure your lifeline continues.

But there are exceptions, people who haven’t had children. I really can’t think of an accurate answer for this.

What makes us human?

It’s not our intelligence neither is it our our body shape or biology it’s our capacity to feel complex emotions and control them. Any old chimp can feel anger lash out in rage. But we humans, we can control such emotions. To think logically and controlling our emotion is what makes us humans.

Empathy towards others makes us human. To sense a fellow human beings emotions and to m pat hose with them, combined with the control of our emotions is the only thing separating us from animals.

So, I hope this pulled someone out of their existential crisis.
